In ancient Rome diseases present to most were malaria and tuberculosis (growth of tubercles in the tissues), and gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach). It was estimated that from July to October 30,000 people died. This is a lot as the population wasn't huge at this time. The sanitation and the nutrition for the Romans was very poor and did not even use toilets, soap and they only started washing themselves in the early 100 BC. The hygiene at this time was very poor and lots of death and disease were due to this issue. The Romans came in contact with the Greeks at about 500 BC, they learned a lot from then and discovered new techniques of them and ways to further prevent death and disease. There were ways that the Romans thought would help peoples health For along time Ancient Rome would think that the Gods would heal you if you were good. They use to have surgeries and used implements very similar to today's use for doctors and surgeons. Wine was used as a medicine in these days, herbs infused in wine was a medical strategy used to heal ones pain.
